Association of Indonesian Herbal and Traditional Medicine (GP Jamu) asked for materials about introduction of medicinal plants and herbal knowledge of the benefits included in the compulsory curriculum in educational institutions.
"We expect the educational institutions run by the Ministry of Health as Nursing Academy, Academy of Health, included the introduction of obligatory curriculum on herbs as well as knowledge of medicinal benefits," said Chairman of the GP Jamu, DR Charles Saerang, in Jakarta, Thursday (11/12).
The announcement was made in the National Working Meeting 2008 GP Jamu attended a number of officials and businessmen from all over Indonesia herbs.
Charles said, required curriculum is also expected to be filled explanation of the various studies that have been conducted by various research institutions.
"That way the student or students at school or college can follow the development of herbal medicine business world," he said.
The effort is also necessary to introduce herbal products are efficacious in improving people's health.
"We recognize the need for qualified human resources especially in the areas of health," he said.
Because until now the facts on the ground, yet many health workers who know the efficacy of medicinal plants especially the role of herbal products for public health.
Until recently recorded 30,000 species of plants that live in Indonesia and only less than 1,000 types of known efficacious drugs. From 1000 they were only about 300 plant species used by the herbal industry and 50 species have been cultivated commercially.
Charles assess the facts it becomes its own potential for Indonesia, including human resources in the country to develop a herbal medicine as one of the nation's flagship product.
